New on DVD: Inspiring tale of coach and underdog runners

Kevin Costner as high school cross country coach Fran White in “McFarland, USA”

Actor Kevin Costner is running out of sports for which to make movies. He’s done baseball (Bull DurhamField of Dreams, For Love of the Game), football (Draft Day), golf (Tin Cup), bicycle racing (American Flyers), boxing (Play it to the Bone) and now cross country running with the movie McFarland, USA, which was released earlier this year and is now on DVD. Inspired by a true story, Costner portrays Frank White, who builds a state champion high school cross county team from students who are primarily Hispanic-Americans who also are field workers. This is a great story of underdogs who become champions; he team and the coach. $19.99
