The Great American Trucking Show (GATS) was moving strictly in the Hammer Lane today.

The doors opened at 10 a.m. and closed at 5 p.m. In between, the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas was wall to wall with truckers, their families and friends and plenty of fans of trucking. And, there was a lot of them.

If you couldn’t get your GATS on today, here’s what you missed:

Big Day for Fans of Shipping Wars

The uShip booth was celebrity central Friday. Three drivers from the A & E hit TV show “Shipping Wars” met and greeted fans, posed for photos and signed autographs. Marc Springer, Tamera Sturgis (He Is With her Transport) and Jennifer Brennan were on hand.

Singer Lindsay Lawler Comes Home

Dallas is home to country singer/songwriter Lindsay Lawler, so she visited friends and family when not autographing copies of her new album at the Schneider booth in the Recruiting Pavilion. Schneider is one of the sponsors of her Truckstop Tour, which as a full schedule of events in September and wraps up in October. A special limited edition of her latest album, “Two Peaches Six Cookies,” just became available at TA Petro travel centers. It includes her trucker anthem, “I Drive.”

Trucker Talent Search Has a Winner

Another singer had a big day at GATS Friday as well. Nate Moran, a California truck driver, won this year’s Trucker Talent Search sponsored by Overdrive and Red Eye Radio. Moran performed “Middle of the Moonlight,” which he wrote for his wife and played for the first time publicly at their wedding in April.

If you couldn’t make it Friday, or simply want a second helping of all things trucking, GATS opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and rocks on until 5 p.m.
