Werner kicks off 60th anniversary year

An Omaha, Neb.-based company that started with one man and one truck has grown into a major international transportation and logistics company that celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

Werner Enterprises, founded by C.L. Werner in 1956, hosted events Monday Jan. 4 at terminal locations and dedicated sites throughout the country to kick off the year-long celebration.

“I wanted to build a business that offered quality service and delivered value to our customers, all while creating career opportunities,” said C.L. Werner, founder, chairman and CEO. “That’s still my passion today, and I couldn’t be more pleased with where we are headed.”

Werner also took the opportunity to introduce the new decal package that will be affixed to all of its new trucks and trailers. The updated branding is being applied to new trucks and new white trailers as they are added to the company’s fleet. Werner’s truck age is expected to average less than 1.5 years by the end of 2016.

This year also marks additional significant milestones for the company, including 30 years of being publicly traded on Nasdaq and 10 years since the launch of Werner Global Logistics.

“It is truly remarkable what C.L. Werner and this organization have been able to accomplish in 60 years,” said Derek Leathers, president and COO. “Werner started with one man and one truck, and we are very proud to have built this company into the transportation leader it is today.”

Werner Enterprises, Inc. operates throughout North America, Asia, Europe, South America, Africa and Australia. It is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States, providing  dedicated van, temperature-controlled and flatbed; medium-to-long-haul, regional and local van; and expedited services.
