Red Simpson, who had several country hits about truckers and truck driving, died Jan. 8 at his home in Bakersfield, Calif. after suffering a heart attack while on the road performing.
Mr. Simpson was well known for his songs “(Hello) I’m a Truck,” “Roll, Truck, Roll” and “Highway Patrol.” He also was among the artists known for helping create country’s so called Bakersfield Sound along with Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.
“(Hello) I’m A Truck reached number four on Bilboard’s Country chat in 1972. It’s a story of life on the road told by the truck, which takes some jabs at the driver.
