Severe winter weather causing travel troubles

Extremely cold and windy weather has caused problems on several interstates Friday and today (Saturday, Feb. 13), and the severe conditions are expected to continue.

Various media reports say three people have died in a 50-vehicle pileup in on I-78 in Lebanon County between Hershey and Allentown. The crash occurred about 9:45 a.m.

The New York State Thruway westbound was closed near Weedsport west of Syracuse Saturday morning because of an accident.

On Friday, multiple crashes closed I-94 in southwestern Michigan. State police report that nine cars and four trucks were involved in one accident and eight cars and six trucks collided in another.

Severe cold, high winds and blowing snow is reported across much of the Northeast and upper Midwest, and is expected to continue for several days.
