21 tons of ham roasted in N.C. truck fire

A tractor-trailer hauling 42,000 pounds of ham caught fire early Saturday April 30 in North Carolina.

The truck came from a Smithfield Foods plant and was driving north on N.C. Highway 87 south of Fayetteville when another trucker stopped it after noticing a fire on the trailer.

WRAL-TV reports officials said the driver of the flaming truck stopped and looked under the trailer when an explosion occurred.

The cause of the fire was a mechanical malfunction, officials said.
