Officials in Texas continue investigating the shooting Wednesday, May 4 morning at the Knight Transportation terminal in the Houston suburb of Katy.
Fox 26 TV in Houston identified the shooter as 65-year-old Marion Guy Williams. Another Houston TV station said family members identified the victim as Mike Dawid.
At about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, a Williams, who was described by Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman as a “disgruntled former employee,” enter the facility in Katy, Texas armed with a shotgun and handgun. He shot and killed Dawid, then killed himself.
According to the Houston Chronicle’s website, Dawid was the shooter’s former supervisor. Numerous reports say Williams had been fired about a mont ago.
Two other Knight employees were injured by flying debris, and a Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a fall.
A fund has been established to help Dawid’s family.
Knight Transportation issued a statement, which said:
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm a shooting at our Katy, Texas, facility, and the death of a Knight Transportation employee. Our deepest sympathies are with the family during this difficult time.
“Knight is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of all of its employees. Counselors will be on site to support our employees. We have suspended all work at our Katy facility pending completion of the investigation.”
Members of the trucking community responded.
