Traffic was tied-up for several hours and five people were injured when a construction crane collapsed on the Tappan Zee Bridge north of New York City Tuesday afternoon.

NBC in New York City reports that several lanes were opened by 5 p.m. and several more due to be open tonight. However, the southernmost lane, which sustained some structural damage, would be closed for several days.

The collapse of the crane caused traffic problems elsewhere as commuters looked for alternative routes home.

The crane’s operator fell into the Hudson River but was rescued by the Coast Guard.
