A company driver for a major Midwest flatbed and specialty carrier was recently recognized as the firm’s top driver of the year.

Harley Costley, 44 from Havelock, North Carolina, was named 2017 Driver of the Year by E.W. Wylie. With the company since the end of 2015, Costley has a spotless driving record and is considered by a company official as a “top performer.”

“E. W. Wylie is proud to recognize Harley as our 2017 Driver of the Year,” said Kay Anderson, vice president of human resources for E.W. Wylie. “His professional demeanor with our customers is outstanding. He is always helpful to his fellow drivers and demonstrates dedication and commitment to the company and to the industry. Harley’s performance, productivity and safety record makes him a true asset to the organization. Harley is the definition of Wylie tough.”

Recognized at the company’s West Fargo, North Dakota terminal, Costley, who drives OTR for E.W. Wiley, received a check for $2,500, a leather jacket and a plaque.

“I am humbled and honored to be chosen out of so many drivers,” said Costley. “This is something that I wasn’t looking for, but here I am. There was some great competition in the finalists.

“But, I couldn’t do this without some of the best people in the industry. All of the drivers here do a great job.

“From the load planners, driver managers, to safety, to drivers, and in my opinion one of the best driver managers, Kiley Severson, this is the best staff. We’re a team and a family here.”

Also recognized were drivers Lee Goracke, Ron Obos, Billy Walsh and Eric Price. All of these drivers had zero accidents or incidents in 2017. Combined they drove almost 700,000 safe miles and hauled over 700 loads.
