NJ emergency repairs create I-295 detour


New Jersey Department of Transportation officials today announced the immediate closure of the ramp from Route 29/I-195 eastbound to I-295 southbound in Hamilton for emergency repairs.

The ramp from Route 29/I-195 eastbound to I-295 southbound is closed to make emergency repairs to a bridge pier. An inspection found severe concrete deterioration and exposed rebar requiring immediate attention, according to a statement from NJDOT.

The ramp will remain closed until the repairs are complete with a detour in place. Motorists should expect congestion during this evening’s commute. The Route 29/I-195 eastbound ramp to I-295 southbound detour includes:

  • Motorists leaving Trenton on Route 29 and Route 129, which becomes I-195, wishing to head south on I-295 will be directed to continue on I-195 eastbound to Exit 1D/Route 206 northbound
  • Cross over I-195 and take the loop ramp to I-195 westbound
  • Take Exit 1A to I-295 southbound
