The Georgia Department of Transportation is closing two major bridges because of Hurricane Michael.

GDOT today said it is closing the Talmadge Memorial Bridge on U.S. 17 in Savanah County and the Sidney Lanier Bridge on U.S. 17/SR 25 in Glynn County as the Category 4 storm is expected to move into Georgia later today.

The Talmadge Bridge closes at 9 p.m. today according to GDOT and the Lanier Bridge closes at 6 p.m.

GDOT said the high winds expected to be part of Hurricane Michael will make travel over the bridges unsafe. Then, inspections of the bridges after the storm passes will be required.
