Foodservice distributor Sysco Corporation has completed the rollout of its 10th professional truck driver training facility.
The program is taught by professional trainers employed by Sysco, and the company covers all costs of training, licensing, and certification, a press release from the company said. Addressing the driver shortage is at the forefront of the program.
The Houston-based company said the three-week training program invites each driver candidate to learn, practice, and master all necessary fundamentals needed to attempt a state CDL exam, as well as training on the “Sysco Way” of operating. After graduating and obtaining a CDL, each qualified driver will be offered a position as a delivery partner at Sysco.
Sysco launched its in-house Operations Academy in March 2022 and has trained nearly 5,000 drivers in new, standardized programs for its newly hired warehouse selectors and licensed drivers, and existing supervisors.
Barr-Nunn certified as Top Pay Carrier
Granger, Iowa-based Barr-Nunn Transportation has been certified as a Top Pay Carrier for the 18th year by the National Transportation Institute.
The National Transportation Institute awards carriers the Top Pay Carrier designation yearly in three critical categories: top-tier pay, health and retirement benefits, and carrier stability. The evaluation process and results are weighted to a single index number and compared to other carriers to create a selected group of the best-paying carriers. Also factored in is a carrier's rank-staying ability to determine a driver's job security.
