An Army veteran who has spent a long time on the road for one company has been honored by the Virginia Trucking Association.

The organization recently named Rodney Haskins of Atlantic Bulk Carrier its Driver of the Year for 2023.

In announcing the award on Facebook, VTA said Haskins has been a professional driver for 18 years and has driven close to 2 million safe miles. He delivers hazardous materials mostly on a same-day basis, according to VTA.

Haskins, 57 and from Richmond, previously worked as a dedicated driver delivering specialty chemicals in multi-compartment trailers with multiple stops and drops. He was selected as Driver of the Year by the customer for this work

During his time in the Army, Haskins served in Operation Desert Storm.

Haskins, according to the VTA, got into trucking after being laid off from his job as a machine operator. He has spent his entire career with ABC.

VTA said of Haskins, represents the best of the hard-working men and women who safely and efficiently deliver the goods and materials vital to our national economy.

The award was presented during VTA's annual Safety and Human Resources Conference in March at the Woodlands Hotel and Suites in Williamsburg.
