A truck driver was shot and killed Monday evening by a Michigan police officer after ramming a police vehicle, crashing into a house, and struggling with the officer.
Michigan State Police statements said St. Joseph Township Police officers received a request to check on the welfare of the driver of a tractor-trailer. The truck and driver were located in the Carronde Park area of St. Joseph Township, which is located on the shore of Lake Michigan in southwest Michigan.
When the truck was located, the driver rammed a police vehicle and then slammed into a nearby residence, according to the MSP's statement. The driver exited the truck and attempted to flee on foot, but was stopped by an officer.
During what the state police said was "a violent altercation," the officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect.
The trucker, said by MSP to be a 42-year-old man from Tennessee, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
State Police said they are investigating the incident.
