Denied CDL renewal, trucker steals rig drives it into Texas DPS building

One person is dead and 13 others were injured Friday, April 12 when a man drove a stolen tractor-trailer into the Texas Department of Public Safety Building where he earlier was denied the renewal of his commercial driver's license.

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson said Friday the driver, Clenard Parker, had stolen the truck, and after a police pursuit drove the vehicle into the office in Brenham, Texas. Parker, 42, of Chappell Hill, Texas, was not injured and was taken into custody by several officers.

Fourteen people were in the building when the truck slammed into the exterior wall at about 10:30 a.m. Three people were airlifted to hospitals, three others were transported to a hospital, and eight more were treated at the scene for their injuries. One person died after being transported to the hospital.

Parker is facing multiple felony offenses, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The investigation of the crash continues.
