Two new rest areas opened Saturday, June 1, on each side of Interstate 10 near Van Horn in southwest Texas.

The rest areas are located about nine miles from Van Horn and replace two older ones that were closer to the town.

Each rest area has 58 truck parking spots. In the future, both will be part of the planned I-10 Truck Parking Availability System that will provide truck drivers real-time information on public truck parking sites along I-10.

The rest areas have air-conditioned and heated restrooms, wireless internet, indoor exhibits, a tornado shelter, shaded playground, walking trails and office space for law enforcement.
