The Iowa 80 Truck Stop in Wolcott, Iowa will have an anniversary celebration on Friday, July 12, that will truly "take the cake."
As part of the 60th anniversary of the opening of the self-proclaimed "World's Largest Truck Stop", Iowa 80 will serve up a special cake modeled after one of the fixtures of the place made by one of the country's preeminent bakers.
A cake created by Duff Goldman, the man behind Baltimore's Charm City Cakes and the Food Network programs Ace of Cakes and Cake Masters will be in the shape of the bright yellow Peterbilt 379 known as the Cornpatch Cadillac, which is on display in the truck stop's Super Truck showroom. The cake will be served to the public at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 12.
“It will truly be a one of a kind cake," said Vice President of Marketing, Heather DeBaillie. "We’re excited to celebrate our 60th Anniversary with everyone in July.."
Delia Moon Meier, Senior Vice President of Iowa 80 said, "“We can’t wait to see the cake next to the Cornpatch Cadillac. It’s going to be so awesome."
The Iowa 80 Truckstop first opened their doors to the public on June 4, 1964. The original facility featured a small restaurant, store, and two diesel pumps.
It now has over 900 parking spaces, 10 restaurant options, a host of driver amenities, and more. We have proudly served America’s professional truck drivers and travelers for 60 years and counting. Iowa 80 has been open for business 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has never closed their doors.
The cake cutting is part of Iowa 80s' 45th Annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree, which will be held July 11-13. Admission and parking are free. Shuttles will be provided from the parking area to the event grounds.
