A trucker faces numerous charges after trying to flee from a border inspection site with 17 migrants in his trailer.
When stopped at the Intestate 35 inspection site in Laredo, Texas recently, James Robert Goff told agents he was alone and agrred to x-ray inspection. The inspection revealed the presence of people in the trailer, and then Goff left the inspection site.
Local police eventually stopped Goff on I-35 and found the migrants in the trailer. Goff reportedly told authorities he was unaware of the people in his trailer, and said he was dropping off the tractor-trailer at a nearby truck stop for a friend.
During questioning, Goff told Homeland Security agents he had transported migrants for the same friend several times in the past.
He was charged with transport, attempt to transport, and conspire to transport migrants.
