A veteran trucker was recently named North Dakota's driver of the year for 2023.

Joe Mondor received the award earlier this month during the 79th annual North Dakota Motor Carrier Association convention.

Presented by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the award is given in appreciation of a driver's dedication to safety, and their support and cooperation with the highway patrol.

Mondor entered the trucking industry 33 years ago, when he began working for Johnson Farms. He later joined Altendorf Express, where he has been for the past 17 years.

Throughout his career, Mondor has logged more than 4.5 million accident-free miles.

Also during the convention, the NDMCA' gave out its trooper of the year award, which shows the trucking industry's appreciation to the highway patrol for enhancing safety for those who depend on the highways for their livelihood.

Trooper Myles Sundby was this year's recipient. He is a Grand Forks-based North Dakota Highway Patrol motor carrier operations trooper.

Sundby is an active participant in the Special Olympics-North Dakota Truck Convoy and is a member of the Central Valley School and Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery Grounds Crew.
