The Central Carolina Community College Foundation recently received a 2020 Kenworth T680 from Mountaire Farms Inc. to be used in the college's Commercial Truck Driver Training Program.
Margaret Roberton, CCCC Vice President for Workforce Development/Chief of Staff, said, “Central Carolina Community College is deeply appreciative to Mountaire Farms for their donation of a truck tractor to support our CDL program. As the program continues to grow, this contribution plays a vital role in expanding access for students and preparing them for high-quality, in- demand careers in the transportation industry."
“Mountaire is proud to support the CDL program at Central Carolina Community College because we know how important it is to train the next generation of truck drivers,” said Amanda Irwin, president of Mountaire Farms.
This is the second truck tractor the poultry company has donated to the college since opening their processing plant in Siler City in 2019. In September 2022, Mountaire donated the first truck tractor to the college.
CCCC has campuses in Chatham, Hartnett and Lee counties in North Carolina.
ATHS honors OOIDA's Spencer
Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association President Todd Spencer received a Golden Achievement Award during the recent American Truck Historical Society Convention and Truck Show in Madison, Wisconsin
The Golden Achievement Award is presented by the ATHS to individuals who have been involved in the trucking industry for 50 or more consecutive years, honoring their excellence, leadership, and service to the profession.
Spencer began his career in trucking in 1974. He soon became the editor of OOIDA’s Land Line magazine and, in 1978, was elected to the OOIDA Board of Directors. In 1992, Spencer was named the association’s executive vice president, and in 2018, he became the fourth president of OOIDA.
In announcing Spencer’s honor, ATHS praised him as a “stalwart advocate for America’s independent truckers. Spencer has been a guiding voice in national transportation policy, frequently testifying before Congress and advising key federal safety and regulatory bodies." the ATHS said in a statement.
