While many sectors of the economy saw disappointing numbers in the Labor Department's July jobs report, trucking actually added jobs. Trucking added some 3,600 jobs in July, bringing total employment for the industry to 1,523,200.
The trucking jobs numbers for July represent a 0.2% increase from June and a 0.4% hike from July of 2024.
(Federal statistics do not include owner-operators.)
That increase came in what was considered by most to be a disappointing jobs report delivered last Friday, Aug. 1. The number of non-farm jobs increased by 73,000 in July. However, the numbers for May and June were revised downward by a total of 258,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate for July was 4.2%, up from June's 4.1%.
Warehouse jobs tumbled in July. They fell to 1,818,300, down 0.4% from June and down fully 2.1% from the same month on 2024.
The numbers were so disappointing to President Donald Trump that he fired Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, saying she faked the July jobs numbers.
