A city of 150,000 people located about 14 miles east of Dallas now has a fully-functional Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement police unit.

The City of Mesquite created the unit in response to the growth in industrial and commercial development over the past decade. The city said the number of large distribution centers around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has led to thousands of large commercial motor vehicles on the roads daily.

In 2023, the Mesquite City Council approved a Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Unit. The unit officially began operations in May 2024. After  a year of specialized training and equipment procurement, the Mesquite Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit is now fully operational.

The unit is composed of two CVE Officers and one CVE Sergeant. They will patrol the streets and highways using specially designed and equipped CVE Ford F-150 Interceptor pickup trucks.

The Mesquite Police CVE  Unit’s goal is to enforce Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance rules to ensure the safety of commercial vehicles and their drivers on the road, aiming to prevent crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
