Several truckers busted as part of numerous recent drug seizures

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents have had a busy couple of weeks recently.

Agents at several different border crossings have seized:

  • $3.3 million of methamphetamine 

  • $16 million in methamphetamine

  • 1,047 pounds of cocaine

  • 937 pounds of methamphetamine

“It is not unusual to encounter hard narcotics comingled with fresh produce and our officers employed an effective combination of targeting and high-tech tools to take down this significant methamphetamine load,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “Seizures of hard narcotics on this scale underscore not only the pervasive nature of the drug threat but our steadfast commitment to keeping our border secure."

The seizure occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when a CBP officer referred a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of frozen mango for secondary inspection. Following a nonintrusive inspection system scan and canine sweep, CBP officers discovered 733 packages containing 1,790.59 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden within the shipment, according to a statement from the agency.

The narcotics have an estimated street value of $16,006,837.

CBP seized the narcotics. Homeland Security Investigations special agents initiated a criminal investigation into the seizure. 

Meth found in shipment of cement

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations officers at the Laredo Port of Entry seized methamphetamine that totaled over $3,300,000 in street value.

The seizure occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the World Trade Bridge, when a CBP officer referred a 2020 International tractor-trailer manifesting a shipment of cement for secondary inspection. Following a canine and nonintrusive inspection system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of 25 packages containing 368.17 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the commodity.

The narcotics had a street value of $3,385,424.

CBP seized the narcotics. Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the seizure.

2 major busts in Michigan

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations, along with ICE Homeland Security Investigations intercepted about 1,047 pounds of cocaine and 937 pounds of methamphetamine during outbound enforcement operations near Detroit and Port Huron ports of entry, respectively, Sept. 11.

In Detroit, a Canada-bound commercial vehicle was selected for examination and a search of the trailer by CBP officers revealed several bricks of a white powdery substance concealed within multiple boxes and two duffel bags. The cargo was confirmed to be cocaine through subsequent testing.

The cocaine was seized, along with the truck and trailer. The driver, a citizen of India, faces federal prosecution.

Similarly in Port Huron, a physical search of a Canada-bound commercial vehicle by CBP and ICE HSI personnel and canine assets yielded more than 400 bags of methamphetamine, which was positively identified through subsequent field testing.

The meth was seized, along with the truck and trailer. The driver, a Canadian citizen, faces federal prosecution.

Both cases remain under investigation by ICE HSI.

ClickonDeroit.com reports an investigator with Homeland Security saw two semi truck drivers moving items between trailers at a gas station near the Macomb and St. Clair county border just before 12:30 p.m.

One truck was followed to the Blue Water Bridge, where Customs and Border Protection officers stopped it, found the meth and arrested Syed Shah.  

A second truck driver, Navjot Singh, was pulled over in Genesee County and arrested.

Less than six hours later, Customs and Border Protection officers at the Fort Street Cargo Facility at the Ambassador Bridge seized 1,050 pounds of cocaine found in a shipment of oat flour.

The driver, Harvikramjeet Singh, was arrested and faces federal charges of intent to distribute drugs.

The Detroit Field Office seized more than 4,300 pounds of cocaine and nearly 1,000 pounds of meth during Fiscal Year 2025 thus far.
