NY cops find 22 violations in one CMV stop

Police in a New York City suburb recently place a tractor-trailer out of service when an inspection uncovered no fewer than 22 violations.

On Nov. 28 at about 11:30 a.m. a City of Rye Police Officer observed a vehicle "appeared to be operating in a commercial capacity," according to a social media post by the department.

After observing vehicle and traffic law violations, a traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle was escorted to a safe location for a full D.O.T inspection.

Upon inspection, an officer identified 22 federal and state violations, seven of which were considered to qualify the rig and driver to be placed out of service.

According to police, the violations included:

  • improper securement of heavy machinery – secured by only one 3/8” chain with a 6,600 lb. working load limit
  • driver operating out of class (Class A required, driver possessed a Class D license)
  • unregistered trailer displaying an improper Maine registration
  • unregistered power unit
  • a federal out-of-service violation for refusal of audit/no contact
  • inactive D.O.T number, among others.

The vehicle was subsequently removed from the roadway by tow, accorsding to Rye police.
