New York State police recently targeted commercial motor vehicles one one of the state's parkways, and wound up issuing more than 200 tickets and placing six truck and six drivers out of service.
On Aug. 19 and 20 troopers conducted a commercial vehicle enforcement detail along part of the 104-mile-long Taconic State Parkway in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties.
During the detail, troopers issued a total of 236 traffic tickets, including:
- 133 tickets for violations of parkway rules and regulations, which prohibit certain restricted vehicles from operating within the parkway system
- 33 tickets for violations of oarkway rules and regulations, which prohibit vehicles displaying painted or affixed signs, names, or insignia from operating on the parkway system
- 70 tickets for other violations of the New York State vehicle and traffic law
Troopers also completed 21 commercial vehicle inspections, resulting in the identification of 99 Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration violations. As a result of those inspections, six drivers and six vehicles were placed out of service.
New York State parkway rules and regulations prohibit commercial vehicles and certain other vehicle types from operating on the parkway system.
The Taconic State Parkway along much of the state's eastern edge is the longest of New York's seven parkways.
