See if you’re getting enough calcium with this calculator

Proper calcium intake is especially important for women, considering 1 in 3 women over age 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture. That figure, from the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), is just a glimpse into how prevalent osteoporosis is. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, about 80 percent of the 10 million Americans with osteoporosis are women.

Getting the right amount of calcium each day can help lower a woman’s risk for this bone disease. The IOF offers a free online calculator to help you see if you’re getting enough calcium to help maintain healthy bones. It asks for gender, age and your estimated calcium intake, and compares your current estimated daily intake to your recommended daily calcium intake.

Once you’ve completed the calculator, it’ll also offer you recommendations, bone-friendly recipes and other resources. You can complete the calcium intake calculator online here.
