These 5 apps help you access audiobooks

Audiobook-AppsLong gone are the days of having to keep up with the clunky CDs of your favorite audiobook. Now, with the right app and Bluetooth or an aux cord, you can stream audiobooks from your phone through your truck‘s audio system.

All five of these apps are available for both Apple and Android devices.

1. Audible

Audible, from Amazon, offers an expansive selection of audiobooks in multiple languages. It comes with a one month free trial and a $14.95/month subscription after that.

2. Downpour

Downpour offers both subscriptions and out-right purchases for audiobooks. You can rent audiobooks or buy them, and the books you buy are yours permanently. Downpour offers a subscription for $13/month, and you can accumulate credits for free audiobooks.

3. Scribd

Scribd subscribers are free to listen to as many audiobooks as they’d like. The service comes with a 30 day free trial and is then $9/month after that, but it gives you unrestricted access to its audiobook database.

4. OverDrive

OverDrive works with your local library to give you access to their audiobook selections. Over 30,000 libraries work with OverDrive, so there’s a decent chance your local library is involved. You just need your library card and you’re all set – that’s right, OverDrive is completely free with a library card.

5. Hoopla Digital

If you’ve got a library card, you can use it to access Hoopla Digital, another audiobook service working with local libraries. If your local library works with Hoopla Digital, you’ll be able to access all of their audiobooks right from your mobile phone.
