System alerts distracted drivers

A new cloud-based warning system provides real-time monitoring to help prevent accidents caused by driver fatigue, lack of alertness or distractions.

InterCore’s Driver Alertness Detection System (DADS) captures information from users with a Bluetooth camera linked to a smartphone. When the service detects reduced driver alertness that could lead to unsafe vehicle operation, it alerts the driver using audible and visual signals. It also sends notifications to third parties such as dispatch centers.

In commercial applications, DADS also can provide data on drivers and their driving patterns to help decrease loss and delays, says a statement from the manufacturer. It also offers a strategic tool to meet performance targets and increase overall effectiveness and safety.

“We are excited to be bringing DADSTM to the market with consumer and commercial versions, offering both sectors a simple, highly effective way to detect fatigue and distractions while driving,” says James F. Groelinger, InterCore’s CEO. “It is the first solution that provides advance warnings of fatigue for all drivers – commercial fleets, mass transit operators, commuters, young drivers, and everything in between.”

In commercial and transportation environments, DADS becomes an invaluable management tool to increase the efficiency and productivity of any size fleet by providing data on drivers and their driving patterns, according to the company.
