About 2,700 International trucks are being recalled because of a problem that could cause the air brakes to lose pressure, according to Navistar.
Affected trucks include:
- 2017 International LoneStar models manufactured between June 7 and Dec. 20, 2016
- 2016-2017 International ProStar models manufactured between May 5, 2015 and Dec. 22, 2016
- 2016-2018 International LT models manufactured between June 1, 2015 and Jan. 12, 2017
- 2017-2018 International RH models manufactured between March 30, 2016 and Dec. 14, 2016
Navistar says the cause of the recall is the air dryer mounting bracket could fracture, causing the air dryer to separate from the frame with possible airline separation from the dryer. This could result in air system leaks or loss of air pressure to the brake system. The recall says this could result in increased stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash.
Navistar says drivers would likely see a loss of air pressure on the air gauge or hear a buzzer in the cab of the truck if the defect occurs.
Navistar will replace the air dryer mounting bracket with a bracket made of heavier gauge steel and thicker gussets. Dealers and owners will be mailed notification letters by May 12.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall number for this recall is 17V-174. If contacting Navistar for more information on the recall, the manufacturer recall number is 17502.
