An Ohio trucker’s maneuver to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of him nearly cost him his life Thursday, Feb. 21. Police say 51-year-old Bryan Shaffer was westbound on Interstate 80 near Hubbard, Ohio north of Youngstown when a pickup towing a trailer in front of him slowed for traffic. When Shaffer swerved into the media to avoid the pickup and trailer, a 43,500 coil of steel broke loose and crushed the passenger side of the cab. WFMJ reports Shaffer was uninjured but ticketed for failing to maintain an assured clear distance.
