Police in Tennessee today shot and killed a man who stabbed four women at a truck stop, fatally wounding three and sending a fourth to the hospital.

The stabbings and shooting took place at about 7 a.m. at the Pilot Travel Center off Interstate 40 in Knoxville.

When police arrived, they confronted a man with a knife in the parking lot. Witnesses had identified him as the stabber. During the confrontation, the man refused to drop the knife and an officer fired shots, killing the man.

None of the victims was identified. Neither was the suspect.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that some of the stabbing victims were employees of the travel center.

Knoxville is home to Pilot’s headquarters, and CEO Jimmy Haslam was reportedly at the scene conferring with police.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
