‘They Drive The Long Haul’

Long before there was the Trucking Moves America Forward, the promotional campaign to polish the image of the trucking industry, there was this four-part film. “They Drive The Long Haul” follows truckers making runs across the “asphalt ribbon” and delivering a variety of goods. Be sure to check out the technology of the day that tracked what a driver did on the road, as well as the truck with a 200 hp engine. And, note there were five different drivers used in relay to make the run from Los Angeles to Spokane, all “stalwart men of the highway.”
