Another tanker truck driver dies in crash; 5 vehicles involved on I-14

The driver of a tanker died in a crash and fire on Interstate 14 near Nolanville, Texas today. This is the second tanker driver fatality in four days following a crash on Interstate 95 in Connecticut Friday.

In the Texas crash, an 18-wheeler loaded with some 8,500 gallons of gasoline slammed into an existing accident on westbound I-14. A car had collided with a tractor-trailer loaded with lumber. The driver of a pickup truck stopped to help direct traffic and his truck was struck by another vehicle.

The collisions occurred at about 6 a.m.

The tanker driver was declared dead at the scene. Four others were taken to a nearby hospital with what are said to be minor injuries.

Nolanville is located about 68 miles north of Austin.

The Connecticut crash occurred on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge, which carries I-95 over the Thames River between Groton and New London. The trucker collided with a car that had mechanical problems.
