Trucker dies when he crashes into South Carolina church building

A truck driver died Wednesday, Sept. 27, when the tractor-trailer he was driving left the highway and struck a church building in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

The crash occurred at about 3:25 p.m. when the 2012 Volvo left U.S. Highway 301, went through a ditch and struck a storage building at the Passions of the Cross Ministries church. 

The truck was reportedly used for hauling mobile homes and was towing a car at the time of the collision.

A passenger of the truck was injured in the crash.

A person familiar with the driver said he was from McDonough, Georgia.

Orangeburg is located about 44 miles southeast of Columbia.
