A trucker is facing numerous charges stemming from the deaths of five people in a collision and fire Saturday, June 28, on Interstate 20 east of Dallas.
The crash occurred near Terrell Saturday afternoon after a truck driver, 27-year-old Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, fell asleep while driving, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety in a statement to the Dallas News.
Gonzalez-Companioni faces five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Two other tractor-trailers and four other vehicles were involved in the collision, which shut down I-20 until after 9 p.m. Saturday.
Traffic was reportedly slowed by a previous accident.
The investigation into the incident continues.
