Driver travels over 77 miles in reverse to set a new world record

Updated Jun 27, 2025

A German armed forces officer recently set a new record for driving backwards.

Marco Hellgrewe, who is not a professional driver, drove a new all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 and trailer 77.48 miles in reverse without stopping. He did his unconventional driving on the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben racetrack.

But that was not enough. Hellgrewe then drove out onto the public streets, still in reverse, and drove over 18 miles from Oschersleben to the new Daimler Truck Global Parts Center in Halberstadt. The haul too about two hours driving about 10 mph.
