Sgt. Reckless: America’s War Horse by Robin Hutton
For centuries man has balanced the accounts of war on the sturdy backs and powerful legs of horses. Sgt. Reckless is the story of one such equine that toiled alongside U.S. marines during the Korean War. This Mongolian mare carried wounded soldiers off the battlefield, made unaccompanied trips across battlefields to deliver supplies and, phenomenally, is said to have made 51 trips in one day delivering ammunition to gun emplacements. Sgt. Reckless earned two Purple Hearts and many other decorations during her time of service.
