DVD: the latest visit to Middle Earth is worth the trip

If you are a fan of the J. R.R. Tolkien fantasy novels you know that Hollywood has taken more than a few liberties with what he wrote, and some of the movies have been better than others. But, Battle of the Five Armies ends the three-part (2012’s An Unexpected Journey and 2013’s The Desolation of Smaug) adaptation of The Hobbit in grand style. It serves well as a prequel to the three Lord of the Rings films. While it may not be non-stop action, it certainly comes close. It even manages some sly humor, and some touching romance. As it has been throughout the trilogy, the cinematography and special effects are stunning.
