Wreaths Across America is gearing up for National Wreaths Across America Day on Dec. 12. Thousands of volunteers will place remembrance wreaths at veterans’ graves at Arlington National Cemetery, and thousands of other cemeteries and locations across the nation.
For Arlington, the main truck convoy will deliver the roughly 230,000 wreaths needed to cover each grave between 8:15-8:30 a.m. Following an opening ceremony, volunteers will begin unloading the wreaths from the trucks and placing them on each grave and memorial at Arlington.
Wreaths will also be placed at President Kennedy’s grave, the USS Maine Mast and the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
This is the schedule for the Dec. 12 wreath laying event at Arlington:
- 7 a.m. – Metro rail opens (system-wide)
- 8 a.m. – Arlington National Cemetery Gates open (Visitor Parking Garage opens at 7 a.m. and ANC Family Pass and Handicap ONLY)
- 8:15-8:30 a.m. (approx.) – WAA truck convoy arrives at Arlington Cemetery Main Gate
- 9 a.m. – WAA opening ceremony (McClellan Arch)
- 9:30 a.m. – Wreath laying begins across cemetery
- 11 a.m. – Wreath laying at President Kennedy’s grave
- 11:30 a.m. – Wreath laying ceremony at USS Maine Mast
- Noon – Wreath laying cemetery at Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
