Celebrate National Doughnut Day … In moderation

Updated Jun 4, 2016

While we are all about truck drivers maintaining a healthy lifestyle while on the road, we also know that truckers cannot live on kale alone.

Today may be one of those times you allow yourself a minor indulgence — after you hit the salad bar, of course — as this is National Doughnut Day. (A bit if trivia: This special celebration started in 1938 as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army.)

Befitting the day, many national chains known for their doughnuts are offering freebies or special pricing on some of their wares. They include:

Krispy Kreme: All stores — except those in Connecticut — and claim a free powdered, glazed or filled doughnut of any variety.

Dunkin Donuts: Buy a beverage and get a free doughnut.

Randy’s Donuts – This Los Angeles doughnut house offers free donut holes from 6 a.m. to noon.

Duck Donuts – This East Coast chain is giving patrons a free sugar doughnut, but you need to get a coupon from their Facebook page.

Shipley Do-Nuts – Stop by and store of this chain, which is located mostly in the South and Midwest, for a free glazed doughnut any time between 5 a.m. and noon.

Tim Hortons — No freebies here but this Canadian-based chain has a coupon for a six-pack of doughnuts for $2.99.
