Employment in the for-hire trucking industry grew by 2,500 jobs in June, according to the Department of Labor’s monthly Employment Situation Report. According to the DOL, trucking has added jobs every month since October, save for a dip in April.

Up 25,000 jobs from the same month last year, employment in the for-hire trucking industry totaled 1.4774 million in June, according to the DOL’s report.

The manufacturing sector in June added 36,000 jobs, while the construction industry gained 13,000. The umbrella group for trucking — the transportation and warehousing sector — added 15,400 jobs in June.

Trucking’s total is based on payroll statistics of employers and does not account for those who change jobs in the month or for those working for private fleets.
