Northeast Alabama Community College’s new CDL program kicked off with a truck donation from local businessman Samuel Noble of Noble LLC, a Scottsboro-area trucking company.

The Rainsville college’s 160-hour CDL program launched May 6. Four students may participate in the class at a time, and new classes start monthly. The program is partially funded through a $285,000 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant, which will support the program through June 2020.

According to the college, truck driving is one of the most in demand jobs in Alabama.

“We are excited about the new program. I have had to watch numerous friends leave our area to find good paying jobs. Most love our county for the obvious reasons, but move to be closer to better paying work. This program will help alleviate that problem,” Noble said.

Noble started his trucking company as a driver with one truck in 1962. His fleet currently employs about 40 company drivers and 60 owner-operators.
