NJ bans “rolling coal”

This is now illegal in the Garden State.

New Jersey Monday (May 4) made “rolling coal” illegal in the Garden State.

Gov. Chris Christie, a possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate signed a law making it illegal to retrofit  â€œany diesel-powered vehicle with any device, smoke stack, or other equipment which enhances the vehicle’s capacity to emit soot, smoke, or other particulate emissions.”

New Jersey already has a law on the books banning modifications to a vehicle to make it emit smoke, and such modifications are already illegal under federal environmental law.
