The 39-year-old Kentucky truck driver who law enforcement officials say caused an accident on I-75 outside Chattanooga, Tenn. in June, killing six, has been charged with six counts of vehicular homicide.
A Hamilton County grand jury Monday Aug. 3 also indicted Benjamin Brewer of London, Ky. on four counts of reckless aggravated assault, driving under the influence of narcotics, speeding and making false reports about his duty status.
The National Transportation Safety Board’s preliminary investigation found that Brewer had been on duty for about 50 consecutive hours in the three days leading up to the June 25 crash.
Last month the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued an imminent hazard out-of-service order to Brewer after the agency determined he falsified his records-of-duty status in the days leading up to a crash.
