A Wisconsin congressman who is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will not seek reelection this fall.
Wisconsin Rep. Reid Ribble (right) with his wife, son and daughter.Rep. Reid Ribble, a 59-year-old Republican representing the 8th Congressional District, which includes Green Bay, Saturday said he is not seeking re-election in order to spend more time with his family.
He becomes the second Republican member of that committee seen as a friend of the trucking industry who is not seeking re-election in November. New York’s Richard Hanna announced late last year that he will not seek re-election to his 22nd Congressional District Seat. Hanna also cited spending more time with his family as his reason to not run again.
“Politico” today said Ribble, “… was a force behind some of the language in the FAST Act that reduced regulations on construction trucks, emergency vehicles, and Wisconsin logging trucks.”
Last fall Ribble left the conservative Freedom Caucus, saying it was hurting the GOP. He has also been outspoken in his opposition to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
