FedEx Freight driver wins Alabama driving contest

FedEx Freight was well-represented at the Alabama Truck Driving Championships at the Pelham Civic Center in Birmingham, May 26. The company’s drivers won in six different categories.

FedEx Freight driver Cecil Slater, who works for the terminal near Montgomery, was named the grand champion out of 100 competing truckers.

The winners, by category, were:

Grand Champion: Cecil Salter, FedEx Freight

Step Van: Robert Davis, FedEx Freight

Tanker: Ross Garner, FedEx Freight

Flatbed: Mike Manzella, Walmart Transportation

Twins: William Downs, FedEx Freight

4-Axle: Steve Brannen, Walmart Transportation

3-Axle: Daniel Thompson, FedEx Freight

Straight: David Hawk, FedEx Freight

Sleeper: Rodney Cosper, UPS Freight

Highest Score in the Vehicle Defects portion: William Cousins, FedEx Ground

Highest Scoring Rookie: Brandon Bunt, AAA Cooper Transportation
