President Trump’s nominee to run the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration took a step closer to starting his new job earlier this week.
The Senate Commerce Committee approved by a simple voice vote the nomination of Raymond Martinez as administrator of the FMCSA Wednesday. His nomination now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
Martinez appeared before the committee last week. During questioning, he said he stood by the regulation mandating electronic logging devices for most heavy trucks. Martinez added that he would talk with small business truckers about the financial impact of the rule, which takes effect Dec. 18.
Martinez has been the administrator of the departments of motor vehicles in New York and New Jersey.
