XPO Logistics driver is grand champ for fourth time in RI

XPO Logistics driver Joseph Hicks, of Johnston, was named Rhode Island’s best of the best this past weekend. He was awarded the Grand Champion title at the Rhode Island Truck Driving Championships, organized by the Rhode Island Trucking Association.

This marks the fourth time since 2010 that Hicks has been honored as Grand Champion. He also won first place in the 3-Axle class. Eighteen drivers from six companies came together in Pawtucket on May 12 for the competition.

Connest Vargas, a FedEx Freight driver, was named Rookie of the Year.

Step Van: David Lumpkin, FedEx Express

Straight Truck: Ryan Gagnon

3-Axle: Joe Hicks, XPO Logistics

4-Axle: Eric Cornell, A. Duie Pyle

5-Axle: Karen Tierney, FedEx Express

Twin Trailers: Robert Burdett, FedEx Freight
