Idaho trucker wins state grand champ title two years in a row

ABF Freight driver Timothy Melody, of Payette, was named the Grand Champion at the 2018 Idaho Truck Driving Championship, making it the second year in a row that he’s been Grand Champion. Melody also won first place in the tanker class.

The Idaho trucking competition is put on yearly by the Idaho Trucking Association. It was held May 5 at the Idaho State Police Training Facility. Sixty-four truckers from 16 different companies competed.

Stephanie Henderson, a driver for Standlee Hay Trucking Company, Inc., from Rupert, won the Rookie of the Year award.

The winners were:

Grand Champion: Timothy Melody, ABF Freight

Best Pre-Trip: Kevin Winn, Old Dominion Freight Line

Team Champion: ABF Freight

Rookie of the Year: Stephanie Henderson, Standlee Hay Trucking

3-Axle: Randall Schwasinger, FedEx Freight

4-Axle: Jeffrey Halford, XPO Logistics

5-Axle: Stephanie Henderson, Standlee Hay Trucking

Flatbed: Casey Walker, Boise Boys, Inc.

Sleeper Berth: David Shattuck, Giltner, Inc.

Straight Truck: Paul Unser, YRC Freight

Tanker: Timothy Melody, ABF Freight

Twin Trailers: Beau Bonds, Old Dominion Freight Line

Step Van: Alan Stacy, FedEx Ground
