New York association names FedEx driver champion

FedEx Freight driver David Watson proved he knows his industry well by being named grand champion at the New York Truck Driving Championship. Watson had the highest overall score and also won first place in the Flatbed class.

Two drivers tied for the Rookie of the Year award. Both Joseph Nigro, of FedEx Freight, and Jonathan Rejman, of Venice Enterprise, were recognized.

The Trucking Association of New York held the competition June 8-9 in Syracuse.

The winners were:

Grand Champion: David Watson, FedEx Freight

Team Trophy: FedEx Express

Written Exam: James Kohr, FedEx Express

Pre-Trip Award: Joseph Krom, FedEx Freight

Rookie of the Year (tie): Joseph Nigro of FedEx Freight and Jonathan Rejman of Venice Enterprise

Ray Dagostino Volunteer Award: Dan Poppenberg, FedEx Express

Step Van: Adam Miller, FedEx Ground

Straight Truck: James Kohr, FedEx Express

3-Axle: David May, XPO Logistics

4-Axle: Randy Merle, FedEx Freight

5-Axle: Martin McMahon, RIST Transport

Tank Truck: Raymond Waage, FedEx Freight

Twins: Mark McLean, FedEx Freight

Flatbed: David Watson, FedEx Freight

Sleeper: Jonathan Rejman, Venice Enterprise
